The new TV series of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation dealing with the life of the poet Kostas Karyotakis and his relationship with Maria Polidouri. Tassos Psaras is the director and the scriptwriter of the series, which is broadcasted since November 2008.

Shooting took place in Athens, Syros, Galaxidi, Kalamata, Paris, Romania and Plovdiv (Bulgaria). There are 200 actors participating in the series and over 3,000 extras. For the best possible depiction of the era, there are over 2,500 costumes used and 22,000 prop objects.

Kostas Karyotakis

Kostas Karyotakis is considered an important luminary of Greek poetry. Born in Tripoli, his father's occupation resulted in Karyotakis' changing homes frequently in his youth. He studied Law in Athens and could speak German and French. He started publishing poetry in various magazines in his teen years. His first collection of poems - The Pain of Men and Things- was published in 1919. Karyotakis became a clerk in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, Syros, Arta and Attica. In 1922 he began having an affair with the poetess Maria Polydoure (who was his colleague at the Prefecture of Attica) but their relationship did not last long. In that period (1921) he published his second collection of poems - Nepenthe. In 1927, the year of his suicide attempt, he published his third collection entitled Elegy and Satires. Kostas Karyotakis, while in Preveza, decided to put an end to his life as the continuous change of posts and his weak character, led him to disappointment and melancholy.
