In the 2007 Athens and Epidaurus Festival, young interesting and promising Greek artists were invited to show their work, opening the Festival up to contemporary Greek dance, to young Greek directors and to the widest range of musical genres. It had also kept in touch with cutting-edge trends in the performing arts around the world trying to fall into step with its most important counterparts around Europe. The response of audiences, artists and state was unique. The Athens Festival wagered on slowly finding its niche on the map of European cultural events.
